A near-circular formation with flower formations across the top and good depth of purple.
The colour is iron, but not in the ordinary way. Most mineral colour comes from a metal simply being present. Amethyst needs two things: iron caught in the quartz structure as it grew, and then natural radiation from the surrounding rock working on that iron over a very long period. Take away either and the quartz comes out clear.
So the purple is a record of where the crystal sat and what was around it, not just what it was made of. Two geodes from the same flow can come out completely different depths of colour.
Keep it out of direct sunlight. Sustained UV breaks down the iron centres that produce the purple, and amethyst that fades does not come back.
