A statement plate in purple and green with flower formations across it.
At this size you can read the whole sequence on one piece. First the basalt, erupted as South America pulled away from Africa, trapping gas bubbles as it set. Then the green celadonite, forming as the rock weathered and lining the empty cavity. Then silica-carrying water working in through the rock, laying down quartz on that lining, picking up iron as it went. Then a very long wait while natural radiation in the surrounding basalt turned that iron purple.
Four separate events, running across more than a hundred million years, and the result is a single surface you can take in at a glance.
Keep it out of direct sunlight. Sustained UV breaks down the iron centres that produce the purple, and amethyst that fades does not come back.
